Managed WordPress – Business / Critical builds on our Private VPS solution and adds enhanced monitoring, security and recovery capabilities for WordPress environments where continuity is particularly important.

Depending on the technical configuration, this may include:

• Proactive monitoring – monitoring of the website, server and essential services so that technical issues can be identified at an early stage.
• Enhanced security monitoring – additional checks for suspicious activity, malware, vulnerabilities and anomalies within the WordPress and server environment.

With our WordPress Emergency Service, we investigate the technical cause of the problem and determine which recovery options are available. This may include examining WordPress, website files, the database, server logs and the underlying hosting environment.

The emergency service is available to existing Vservs customers as well as organisations that host their WordPress website with another hosting provider.

For websites hosted elsewhere, SSH access to the hosting environment is required. Without sufficient technical access, we cannot perform a complete investigation or reliable recovery.

WordPress problems can have a variety of causes. With sufficient technical access, we can investigate the website and hosting environment and, where possible, restore them.

Our WordPress Emergency Service can assist with, among other things:

• Hacked WordPress websites – investigation of unauthorised changes, files and user accounts.
• Malware and malicious code – detection and removal of suspicious or infected files and scripts.
• Unwanted redirects and spam – investigation when visitors are redirected or unwanted pages and links appear on the website.
• White Screen, HTTP 500 and other errors – investigation of serious WordPress, PHP, plugin or theme issues.
• Problems after an update – investigation and recovery when a WordPress, plugin or theme update has disrupted the website.
• Suspicious administrator accounts – checks for unknown users, modified permissions and possible unauthorised access.
• Plugin and theme issues – technical investigation of conflicts, errors or vulnerable components.
• Investigation after a security incident – examination of WordPress, files, the database and available server logs to determine the possible cause and extent of an incident.
• Recovery and security after an incident – where possible, restoring the website and implementing measures to secure the WordPress environment again.

If the problem is not limited to WordPress itself, we can also include the underlying hosting environment in our technical investigation, provided sufficient access is available.

To properly investigate a WordPress problem, we need sufficient technical access to the website and hosting environment.

For websites that are not hosted by Vservs, the following therefore applies:

• SSH access is required – we need direct access to the hosting environment and the website files.
• WordPress administrator access – to review the WordPress configuration, users, plugins and themes.
• Access to the hosting control panel – if required for the investigation, access to DirectAdmin, Plesk, cPanel or another hosting control panel may be necessary.
• Database and log access – relevant databases and available web server, PHP and other logs must be accessible for investigation when required by the nature of the incident.
• Available backups – where available, previous backups may be required to compare changes or restore data.
• DNS or provider access – only when the incident or recovery requires work outside the WordPress installation.

Access to wp-admin alone is not sufficient for the WordPress Emergency Service.

If the current hosting provider does not provide SSH access, we cannot perform a complete technical investigation or recovery through the WordPress Emergency Service.

When a serious WordPress problem occurs, you primarily want to know what has happened and whether the website can be safely restored. That is why our WordPress Emergency Service follows a structured, step-by-step approach.

1. Problem report – you describe the problem, the symptoms you have observed and any events that may have occurred beforehand.
2. Verification of technical access – before we begin, we verify that the required SSH, WordPress and, where necessary, hosting access is available.
3. Technical investigation – we examine the WordPress installation, files, database, configuration and available logs to determine the possible cause and extent of the problem.
4. Recovery – where technically possible, we restore the website, remove any malicious or unwanted components we identify and carry out the necessary technical recovery work.
5. Security review – after recovery, we review the WordPress environment and, where possible, implement additional measures to help prevent the problem from recurring.
6. Report and recommendations – you receive a summary of our key findings, the work performed and any additional measures that are still required or recommended.

In the event of a serious security incident, it cannot be guaranteed in advance that a website can be fully restored. The available recovery options depend on factors including the nature of the incident, available backups and logs, and the level of technical access provided by the current hosting provider.
